Jan
Collmer is President of High
Voltage Power Systems, Inc., a high tech manufacturing company
in Dallas. The company has grown continuously since its inception
in 1979 as Collmer Semiconductor. Now renamed, HVPSI employs approximately
80 people in the Dallas area with additional sales offices in California,
Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Prior to starting
his own company, Jan was President of Varo, Inc. in Garland, Texas.
Jan
is a native of Dallas, Texas. He received his BS in Mathematics/Physics
at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1963. Later, he worked
toward an MBA at Southern Methodist University in 1968.
Jan's
many civic activities include numerous board appointments, including
a term as Chairman of the Greater Dallas Chamber. He just completed
his second term as a board member of the Dallas/Fort Worth International
Airport. He also serves as a trustee at University of Dallas and
recently the Jesuit College Preparatory School Foundation. He is
a member of the board of directors at Southwest Securities. He has
also served in board positions for the University of Texas at Arlington
and the University of Texas at Dallas.
Despite
Jan's successful business career, flying remains his first love.
He was awarded his U.S. Navy pilot's wings at NAS Corpus Christi
in 1956. He flew Navy fighter planes for ten years, both active
and reserve, until he retired with the rank of Lt. Commander in
1966.
Since
then, Jan has become an accomplished airshow pilot and has flown
airshows all across the country, including the only airshow performance
(oct. 1996) over DFW Airport since it started operation in 1974.
He currently flies a red and white EXTRA 300L.
Due
to his great interest in aviation history, Jan is currently President
of the Board of Directors of the Frontiers
of Flight Museum at Love Field, as well as one of its original
founding members.
